Galina Tuftina (born 14 October 1933 in Novosibirsk, USSR) was a Soviet and Ukrainian classical opera and chamber mezzo soprano singer. In 1955-1960, she studied at the Leningrad Conservatory, in 1959-1960, she worked at the Leningrad Theatre of Opera and Ballet of S. Kirov (now the Mariinsky Theatre), and in 1960-1961 at the Maly Opera Theatre (now the Mikhailovsky Theatre). From 1961 to 1991, Tuftina was one of the leading singers of the Kyiv Opera, reprising the roles of Marfa in M. Musorgsky's «Khovanschina», Amneris in G. Verdi's «Aida», Carmen in G. Bizet's «Carmen», Nastya in M. Lysenko's «Taras Bulba», Siébel in Ch. Gounod's «Faust» and many more. Her solo concerts would also involve chamber vocal numbers and Russian and Ukrainian folklore. Tuftina was the laureate of several international competitions for young opera singers (in 1960, 1961, 1962 and 1965) and was awarded the honorary title of People's Artist of the USSR (1980). In 1980-2007, she was a professor at the Kyiv Conservatory.
